Abdali Mall is the retail and leisure hub of the new downtown and is a natural continuation of the Abdali Boulevard, the pedestrian spine of the city’s upcoming business district. It is designed by architect LACECO (Lebanese Arab Contracting and Engineering Company). LACECO was founded in 1988 in Beirut as a multi-disciplinary consultancy firm involved in the planning and studies of architecture and construction projects. The company has grown to become one of the leading offices in the region. Another firm working on the design aspect is AEDAS - a leading international design practice, with more than 1,750 employees operating in 20 countries around the world, with 26 global offices. Aedas was formed in 2002 by the UK based practice AHR, formerly Abbey Holford Rowe, and the Asia based practice LPT.
The shopping mall has approximately 132 retail units, 57 F&B units, and four entertainment units (Entertainment area, kids’ play area, “action” zone, cinema). For moviegoers, it has 11 screens, and is equipped with four VIP halls. Among one of its advanced features currently under consideration is a feature that protects children getting lost from their parents. This is in the form of a bracelet tracking device which tracks their location and sounds an alarm would if the children leave the mall. As far as food goes, the F&B units range from local concepts and international cafes, casual dining, and fine dining to a food court with well-known fast food brands. Furthermore, the five basement levels for parking can easily accommodate 2,400 cars.
As of 2013, Abdali Mall has a diverse mix of brands in the fashion, retail, F&B, and services sectors. Internationally recognized names include Hamley’s, BHS, Massimo Dutti, Zara, H&M, Pull & Bear, Lacoste, Paul, and Starbucks. The remainder of the leasing activities are planned
to take place in 2014 where more brand names will be part of the Abdali Mall tenant mix.
